Religious Conflicts and Coping Strategies
The Interfaculty Research Collaboration investigated conflicts with religious dimensions and approaches to addressing them in 12 subprojects. It brought together over 40 researchers from a wide variety of disciplines. Based on the findings of the subprojects, an analytical model for the context-sensitive analysis of religious conflicts was developed. The IFK was led by Prof. Katharina Heyden, spokesperson for the IRS team. Also involved in the IFK as subproject leaders were Prof. Angela Berlis, Prof. René Bloch, Prof. Luca Di Blasi, Prof. Rainer Hirsch-Luipold, and Prof. David Plüss, as well as IRS assistant Angela Ullmann and Maria Lissek as associate researchers.

Research project on inter-religious partnerships

An estimated 200,000 people in Switzerland are currently living in religious interfaith marriages and partnerships. These couples make an important contribution to maintaining religious harmony in a multireligious and multicultural society. The research project, a collaboration between the Universities of Bern and Fribourg, examined how various religious factors, in conjunction with relationship psychology and social influences, contribute to the success or failure of interfaith relationships. The project contributed to academic exchange and public discourse and developed practice-oriented recommendations. The research project at the University of Bern was led by Prof. Dr. Stefan Huber, Professor of Empirical Religious Studies. In addition, the project offered students opportunities to conduct their own research as part of their thesis work.
